Learn to Relish a Media Interview
An interview with a reporter is a stressful proposition for many executives. They fear making a mistake, being asked a question they’d rather avoid, and naturally, being misquoted.
Maybe they’re looking at it the wrong way.
Why not learn to enjoy the interview? With the right approach and prep, executives and leaders should embrace interviews instead of avoiding them, even when hard questions are expected. Indeed, the hard questions are where the opportunities await.
I’ve spent a career in media, first as a business reporter in Chicago’s top newsrooms and then a decade counseling and training executives on the best ways to talk with the media for a global PR firm. I’ve learned a few things along the way, thanks to great mentors in both of those media worlds.
Now I’m leveraging 30 years of top-tier media work to start my own shop specializing in media training and presentation training. My focus is straightforward: help executives and those climbing the ladder become confident and trusted voices.
I know what reporters want. I know what they’ll use - and why.
I know how to take a subject down a rabbit hole. And how to coach them to climb out.
I know reporters don’t care one bit about your messages. And why you shouldn’t care.
How can you learn to enjoy an interview? Understand what’s coming and know how to embrace the opportunity.
