Looking for that first job? Class notes from a recruiter

BCW recruiter Michaela Morgan joined my #MSU #PR class Wednesday and provided great guidance on what soon-to-be graduates and #students seeking #internships should think about. Here are her tips:

Most important: Consider the classes and projects you most enjoyed. Did that include working with teams, working solo, creative work, financial issues, and other interesting tasks? What did you tackle academically that made you happy? That’s a big clue.

Digital skills: Have you worked with Google AdWords or Analytics? Or handled media monitoring at a previous internship, or even needed to learn a new digital platform. Highlight these digital skills.

Show your work: An organized portfolio showcasing well-executed class project work, challenging writing assignments, and other creative work (including social posts) highlighting your voice, tone, style, and approach is a plus.

Personalize: Who are you? Don’t be shy about sharing a sense of what makes you tick.

Stand out: In interviews, stand out by discussing the content, strategies, and ideas you admire. And it goes without saying to write well.

Thank you for the great conversation, Michaela!
